Heroes to Heroes has spent 16 years serving over 700 American and Israeli veterans, taking American combat veterans with PTSD on healing trips to Israel where they reconnected with their faith and met wounded Israeli soldiers who understood what they had been through.
The reason they're closing is actually beautiful.
Since the US withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021, far fewer American service members have been deployed into active ground combat. The specific population Heroes to Heroes was built to serve has shrunk, and nearly 40,000 other organizations now exist across the United States to support veterans.
Founder & CEO Judy Elias and her board made the hard decision to close because the specific need they were built to meet has diminished. They didn't fail, they simply finished.
Our most recent donation went toward helping their final cohort make their last journey to Israel this July. I cannot think of a better way for our partnership with them to end.
Here's what this means going forward:
Supporting Christians who stand with Israel is core to our mission, and Heroes to Heroes was the bridge that made that real. A massive percentage of you reading this are American Christians who have stood with the Jewish people in a moment when so much of the world has not, and I am not going to stop honoring that. We will continue donating to Belev Echad, Magen David Adom, and Friends of the IDF as before, and we are looking for a new fourth partner to take Heroes to
Heroes' place.
If you know of an incredible organization that supports veterans, builds bridges between Christians and Jews, or serves American Christians who stand with Israel, please hit reply and tell me.
Some of the best decisions this company has made came from your replies to these emails.
And to Judy, to her board, to the 700+ veterans whose lives were changed by Heroes to Heroes... thank you!!
You did the work. You finished what you started. That's the highest honor an organization can earn. And we're proud to have been part of your journey. ~
